An automated ship carrying ore from a mining colony to the processing plant had apparently dropped out of warp - and we were asked to investigate.
As we were nearing the location, we unexpectedly dropped out of warp ourselves !
In scanning the area, I found that we were in a cloud of exotic particles - that seemed to have disrupted our warp field.
Further scans showed the ore carrier to be surrounded by two other ships of unknown origin - which suddenly attacked us !
We were able to fend off the attack which resulted in one of the ships being destroyed and the other leaving the area badly damaged.
On our approach to the ore carrier, we hit a mine - which caused us some minor damage.
On scanning the ore carrier, I found that there were a total of nine mines attached to its hull - presumably having been put there by the other two ships which we must have disturbed whilst they were about to attach the tenth mine.
Whilst we were carrying out repairs, the ore ship had drifted out of the particle cloud and resumed its journey to the processing facility at warp speed !
We calculated that the ore carrier would arrive at the processing facility in approximately 48 hrs - and surmised that the intention of those who had attached the mines to the carrier's hull, was to use the carrier as some sort of bomb to blow up the processing facility.
We devised a plan to intercept the ore carrier and deal with the mines attached to its hull before it reached the processing facility.
Once we were free of the particle cloud, we were able to go to high warp speed and catch up with the ore carrier.
We fired and detonated a couple photon torpedoes ahead of the ore carrier, which disrupted the carrier's warp field, bringing it out of warp and allowing us to teleport over a boarding party.
Our boarding party set to work to gain control of the ore carrier. With the help of those still aboard the 'Tyson, we were able to lock on to each of the mines and teleport them away one at a time, to a safe distance where they were destroyed.
The ore carrier's controls were then reset to arrive safely at the processing facility.
