Duty Log:
While on our regular patrol of the Sarlean system we came across a large unknown vessel that seemed dead in space but had many low level life signs. Attempts were made to contact the ship and contact was made with the Captain.
The race was found to be the K'normians, a Klingon like race of merchant traders from the Sarlea sector though this was the first time Starfleet has made contact with them. The Universal Translator was having difficulty parsing the language as it was based on an obscure form of Klingon.
While trying to speak with the Captain he was seen to collapse from his chair.
I decided to send the away team over in environmental suits to see how we could help the K'normains.
Upon beam over we found all the crew in deep coma states and the Captain barely conscious.
He was in and out of consciousness and kept muttering the same words which the Universal Translator was finally able to translate as "Help...our people need your help. My planet needs your help."
Once the Universal Translators were able to parse the language my crew was able to decrypt the consoles and see about getting ship's systems back up.
Cmdr Flamand and Lt. Mills found that the K'normains were suffering from something like the Betazoid Zanthi fever that attacts the paracortex. It was determined that it would not be contagious to us and we could open our environmental suits.
I ordered the K'normians beamed over to our sickbay for treatment while we take their ship in tow. I am contacting Starfleet to see if we know the location of their homeworld and if we can launch a mercy mission to their people once we know if we can treat their malady.
