Ganymede Glitch Mission

Chief Science Officer's Log: SD230120

I joined other officers aboard the USS Tyson, where Captain Maven informed us that we were going on a routine mission to resupply the Ganymede Science Station, which was situated close to the Heucal Nebula. I was therefore looking forward to meeting the (dozen or so) scientists working there.

We traveled to the planet of Ganymede and assumed a standard orbit. I was concerned to learn that our hails to the Science Station were not being answered - and even more concerned that my scans showed only two faint life signs there.

We sent a Security Team down the Station, to investigate the situation. Their report of finding 10 dead scientists and 2 scientists in a critical condition raised alarm bells. I joined the Away Team (wearing EVA suits) to the Station to find out what had happened.

As a result of my investigations and initial analysis of samples, I concluded it was possible that one of the scientists had brought one of the large mushroom-like plants, that grow on the planet's surface, into the Station to study. However the mushroom-like plant seemed to have released toxic spores that proved to be fatal to nearly everyone inside the station. Further analysis of the samples I had taken and autopsies of the dead scientists should reveal further information.

We returned to the USS Tyson along with now all 12 bodies of dead scientists - and deployed a warning beacon above the Science Station before setting off back to Galileo Station.

End Log.
