USS Einstein – “Steampunk” Mission 230925

We met in the Command Room aboard the USS Einstein, where Capt Bravin informed everyone that we were going to visit the planet Verne, where some sort of "theme park" had been created based on the subgenre "Steampunk" - and as such would be of interest both from a historical and technological aspect.
It is understood that "Steampunk" incorporates technology and aesthetics inspired by 19th-century Earth's industrial steam powered machinery. Steampunk is often set in an alternative history of the 19th Century Victorian era, where steam power remains in mainstream use, or in a fantasy world that similarly employs steam power.
Adding to the authenticity,  it would seem that the planet Verne, was named after Jules Verne - a 19th Century Earth author of such novels as "Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea" and "Journey to the Centre of the Earth".

We left the Command Room and headed for the Bridge where we took up our stations.
When all stations were ready, we left orbit of the planet Legend from which we had visited earlier,
(see "Android Bioengineering Tour" Mission 230911 Log) and set course for the planet Verne.
On our arrival we took up a standard orbit above the planet - and Science reported that scans had identified an area containing old technology.
We left the Bridge in the capable hands of other crew members, and went to the Transporter Room - from where we beamed down to the surface.

We materialised in what can only be described as an old industrial area, with airships floating above in the sky.
We made our way towards a staging area, where airship style bicycles could be obtained to travel around on - which Ensign Spring took the opportunity to try out.
A little further on was another staging area dominated by a large old clock face, the mechanics of which were impressive.
To the rear was an old large brick/stone building which we went into.
There we found a replica of H.G. Wells "Time Machine", which was perhaps why they had placed the large clock just outside the building ?
Further inside the building there was an open area of the floor, below which molten lava flowed. Presumably the heat from the lava was used to heat water to generate steam using the various pipes, etc. that we could see.

We left the building and went back outside again.
We walked a short distance, where we stopped to take a further look at the various types of airships and balloons that were in the sky above us.
We then followed a stone pathway that led us across some water to another island.
There we saw a more ornate stone building with large glass windows.
Inside were a variety of strange and interesting old objects.
After viewing the objects and trying to establish their use, we decided to beam back to the ship and return to the planet another day.
