At the Briefing meeting aboard the USS Tyson, Capt Maven informed us that we had orders to go to a mining colony on the fourth planet of the Teus system to pick up two of the miners (who had apparently stealing dilithium) and return them to Galileo Station prior to their trial.
We went to the Bridge and headed off to the Teus system where we took up orbit above the fourth planet.
Having sent a Security team down to the mining colony, for what we thought was going to be a routine pick up, we were surprised to receive a communication from them, informing us that one of the accused miners had taken the Manager hostage !
Capt Maven organised an Away Team and we beamed down to the mining colony.
Negotiations with the miner revealed that he wanted a ship to him and his fellow miner off the planet, along with the dilithium that they had stolen. If his demands were not met, he threatened to kill the hostage and set of explosives that he had placed around the colony.
It was decided in order to buy time, to tell him that we had agreed to his demands and had brought a shuttle down for his use.
We then received a message from the other accused miner, that he wanted no part in what was going on and offered to cooperate with us to find a solution to the situation.
We therefore arranged for an anesthetic gas to be released once the miner and his hostage boarded the shuttle - which then enabled our Engineer, Justin Time and myself to remotely disable the explosives.
