Captain's Log, Stardate 240731
We arrived at Lir Space Station on the edge of the Expansion Zone and made contact with Ram Dass who runs the office of Ram’s Jets, the company that refitted our new craft.
Picking up our new craft, we sold him the stolen Defiant at a fraction its value. Yet another used ship salesman with a reputation for double dealing Dass sold us out to Cardassian Renegades, placing a tracker on Peregrine's hull and disabling hull sensors. Departing Lir we saw a Cardassian flotilla waiting for us, we quickly returned to the safety of the station. Maven—having anticipated Dass’s duplicity—had added a subroutine to the Defiant’s computer before we handed it over, slaving it to remote control from the Peregrine.
The tracker was located and placed in a probe which we sent off at warp on our original course as we exited the station in the opposite direction. The flotilla chased the probe as anticipated, with the exception of a sole Cardassian Warbird that—noting our suspicious warp trail—followed us. We triggered the Defiant to follow us too at a discrete distance.
In their warship the Cardassians ran us down quickly and ordered our surrender. We stalled them, bringing the Defiant into play and diverting their attention towards us and away from their rear mirror.
At this point, complicating matters, we were contacted by a Ram’s Jets engineer with a drinking problem who had passed out on the Defiant and woken up warping into our conflict with the Cardassians. He was instructed to take an escape pod urgently. Thirty seconds later the Defiant plowed into the Cardassian vessel at warp, an antimatter missile that lit up the stars behind us like a small nova as we warped to safety.
We returned to pick up the escape pod, placing it in tractor beam to allow its occupant to sober up further, and resumed our journey into the Expansion Zone.
