Captain's log: Stardate 230116

The Feynman made a routine flyby of an odd beacon that fired up a few days ago in the Lascioux System 6 light years spinward of Galileo. A survey of Lascioux 3 years ago showed no habitable planets or artefacts of interest, so an active beacon was a bit of a surprise. Lascioux itself is a highly unusual contact binary of O-Type stars which are extremely rare as singles and almost unheard of as binaries. The violence of that configuration renders its planets uninhabitable.

Arriving at the beacon our warp engines and major energy systems including defence systems and transporters powered down as we entered some sort of damping field around the beacon. Engineering determined the field extended for a radius of 230,000kms around the beacon so we impulsed to the perimeter to restore full power and Commander sh'Varess ran detailed scans of the beacon and its surrounding space. Scans revealed that a large artificial structure, most likely a space station, had been reduced to debris in a major energy event (weapons?) around 100 years ago—the front of the shockwave of the blast was detected at 100ly).

Who built the station and who destroyed it? Are these unknown species still around? Are they a threat? Intel has a job on their hands unravelling this mystery.
